It’s time to step away from the textbook and teach our students to truly understand and speak. Not everyone can conjugate a verb, but every student has a natural gift for stories and conversation. Simple, low-prep lessons can transform the foreign-language classroom. It doesn’t matter how complex the grammar or the subject, every day students can learn to say and understand more than they could the day before.
I’ve taught foreign language at middle and high school, private school and home school classes, to students ages 3 to 60. Besides Spanish, my main subject, I’ve taught a bit of English, French and Russian.
